Nominalizările pentru această ediţie au apărut încă din luna noiembrie a anului trecut. Lizzo este artista care a primit cele mai multe nominalizări, opt, urmată de Billie Eilish şi Lil Nas X, cu câte şase selecții, şi de Ariana Grande şi HER, cu câte cinci.
Premiile Grammy sunt prezentate anual de către Academia Națională a Artelor și Științelor de Înregistrări a Statelor Unite ale Americii pentru realizări deosebite în domeniul înregistrărilor muzicale. Spectacolul decernării lor este unul din cele patru mari spectacole muzicale cu decernări de premii desfășurate anual în Statele Unite; celelalte fiind Premiile Muzicii Americane, Premiile Muzicale Billboard și Ceremonia inducțiilor în Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
